Prior to joining the Rainier team, Susan worked for Franciscan’s
Palliative Care as a Physician’s Assistant, servicing the greater Enumclaw and Bonney Lake area.

She is board certified and received her degree from the University of Washington where she periodically is a guest lecturer for their Physician’s Assistant program. She has worked on multiple international medical relief efforts; including to Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.

As new coverage emerges we will keep you posted.  The 2012 Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Clinical Trials Participation Award will be presented to representatives of NWMS/Rainier Hematology-Oncology at ASCO’s 48th Annual Meeting in Chicago, taking place June 1-5, 2012.

Support for clinical trials, as the basis for improved cancer care, is a core value of ASCO and NWMS/Rainier Hematology-Oncology. It is at the heart of our organizations efforts to provide state of the art treatment to our patients. ASCO’s hope is this award is an important step toward improving awareness among other community-based oncology practices across the nation about the value of incorporating clinical trials into their practices. Another goal of the award will be to raise awareness of cancer research in our community.

4-25-2012 ASCO Presents NWMS Research Award

The daylong event included Rainier Hematology-Oncology physician Dr. Sibel Blau who spoke on managing the long-term effects of cancer treatment. In the two-part session, Dr. Blau covered the consequences of chemotherapy with special emphasis on chemo brain and neuropathy. She discussed their cause and the different approaches towards healing. Survivors also learned what to expect after treatment including the frequency of testing,

Mary Senecal, NWMS Oncology Nurse and ACSM certified personal trainer, was also featured as she lead a “hands on” session that taught the basics of strength training to help assist in the recovery of cancer patients. She emphasized that everyone can become stronger, they need to just start small and work their way up.

Rounding out the event was the NWMS informational booth that offered the nearly 400 attendees material highlighting our family of services, along with helpful resources  and giveaways to help make their journey towards optimal health a little bit easier.
